Installation notes for emboss version 6.6.0

Installation

1. $ ver="6.6.0"
2. $ cd /programinstallers/
3. $ wget -N ftp://emboss.open-bio.org/pub/EMBOSS/EMBOSS-$ver.tar.gz
4. $ tar -zxvf EMBOSS-$ver.tar.gz
5. $ cd EMBOSS-$ver
6. $ ./configure
7. $ make (takes a long time)
8. Error in next step, ldconfig solution was at https://www.biostars.org/p/86327/
   $ sudo make install
   …
   /usr/local/bin/embossupdate
   /usr/local/bin/embossupdate: error while loading shared libraries: libnucleus.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

9. $ sudo ldconfig
10. $ sudo make install
    …

    Libraries have been installed in:
       /usr/local/lib
    
    If you ever happen to want to link against installed libraries
    in a given directory, LIBDIR, you must either use libtool, and
    specify the full pathname of the library, or use the `-LLIBDIR'
    flag during linking and do at least one of the following:
       - add LIBDIR to the `LD_LIBRARY_PATH' environment variable
         during execution
       - add LIBDIR to the `LD_RUN_PATH' environment variable
         during linking
       - use the `-Wl,-rpath -Wl,LIBDIR' linker flag
       - have your system administrator add LIBDIR to `/etc/ld.so.conf'

11. Cleanup
    $ cd ..
