Installing AFS on Ubuntu 12.10

  1. $ sudo apt-get install openafs-client openafs-kpasswd
    when prompted use cell name afs1.vcru.wisc.edu
  2. $ sudo nano /etc/openafs/CellServDB
    Add these lines:
    >afs1.vcru.wisc.edu             #USDA ARS VCRU
    128.104.238.50                  #fs6.vcru.wisc.edu
    128.104.239.29                  #fs2.vcru.wisc.edu
  3. Reboot computer (need to test if this is necessary, or alternative command to type)
  4. Get AFS tokens with $ klog yourusername or if yourusername is the same as your current user name, just $ klog
  5. AFS files are located in /afs/afs1.vcru.wisc.edu/usr/scientistlab/yourusername/
